72 Hours in RVA

May 15

Afternoon

Arrive late afternoon via plane, train, bus or car. 

Visit the colorful Carytown neighbourhood for a walk. Explore the gorgeous local boutiques and grab dinner at a cozy restaurant. 

Visit the Byrd Theatre for an affordable movie held in a historic theatre. 

Evening

At 7.30pm, head over to Thomas Dale High School to see the Geneva Junior Prizewinners' Concert, featuring Christian Li, Chloe Chua and Hina Khuong-Huu, conducted by Christopher Johnston. 

May 16

Morning

Grab a cup of coffee and brunch downtown at a nice cafe, such as Lamplighter Coffee Roasters.

Afternoon

Head to the Modlin Center for the Arts on the University of Richmond campus to watch the Junior First Rounds - the afternoon session starts at 2.15pm. 

After indulging in some amazing music, head over to Maymont Nature Center and Farm for a breath of fresh air in their various cultural gardens. Pop into their Nature Exhibit and Farm to see amazing animals - staff members often do fun demonstrations and activities with them! 

Evening

As Richmond is known as one of the top "foodie cities," make time to grab dinner at Mexican-Asian fusion restaurant, Wong Gonzalez, or drop into Perly's, specializing in innovative Jewish dishes. 

At 7.30pm, watch Menuhin Competition Folkestone 2000 prizewinner Ning Feng perform with Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Myssyk, at the Dominion Energy Center - only a few minutes walk from Perly's. 

May 17

Morning

Grab a quick cup of coffee at Pop's Market and head over to the Modlin Center for the Arts to see the Senior First Rounds, starting at 10am. 

Afternoon

Head over to the Fan District to grab lunch at an American style dinner such as Joe's Inn, or head over to Sabai for some authentic Thai food. 

Enjoy a relaxed visit to one of Richmond's many excellent museums - such as the Virginia Museum for Fine Arts, which houses art pieces from all over the world, including an impressive collection of American 20th Century art.
